#LahainaFires

KLH has been helping Kanaka Maoli families and other affected families and groups on Maui since the tragic Lahaina fires on August 7, 2023 that destroyed the historical town and killed over 100 men, women, and children.

We have been working with Lahaina groups and leaders as well as nonprofits to provide direct cash aid, supplies, increased access to clean drinking water, and set up platforms to spread the message of what is happening to the families of West Maui. We have also volunteered at the hubs and held fundraisers.

Hawai’i is going through a water crisis caused by corporate greed with the diversion of streams for mono crops and the contamination of our aquifers and wells by the US military. This crisis is exacerbated
by climate change and global warming and as a result we are seeing an increase in extreme weather conditions and rising seas.

KLH has prioritized mutual aid efforts as a precaution for “natural” disasters. Over the years we have served thousands of meals and hundreds of cases of clean water to families in need in our island home.
