THIS IS US TODAY

KLH was a key organizer and sponsor for the 2019 Kūkahi March through Waikīkī to protest the building of Thirty Meter Telescope. This was the largest Kanaka Maoli led march with 40,000 participants. Kū Kiaʻi Mauna!

KLH and our citizens have been on the frontlines of the movement to protect Mauna Kea for decades.

ʻOnipaʻa: To be Steadfast

Every year KLH helps sponsor and organize the ‘Onipaʻa Peace March from Maunaʻala to ʻIolani Palace on January 17th to commemorate the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1893 and to raise awareness of unresolved claims for landback and justice for the indigenous peoples of Hawaiʻi.

The first march commemorating the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom took place in 1993 on the 100th anniversary. Nearly 30,000 Kanaka Maoli and supporters attended this march. On this same day on the grounds of ʻIolani Palace, Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask gave her famous “We are not American” speech.
